A Compendium of Arikpo’s Thoughts.
The convergences between visual arts and musical arts makes a case for
the contemporaneity of Arts. The experiments of Godwin Arikpo as experienced in this body of work affirms Pluto’s assertion of music as the medicine of the soul. It also makes palpable the emotions at play especially during festive seasons where musical notes serenade the nooks and crannies of the environment.
Notes as musical notations for semiotic systems with specific principles for
structural organization guide the mood for the season. In the same vein, the imageries in this body of work lean towards notes that point us to these
tangible emotions. Arikpo’s intentionality with colours and forms present a vivid organization of musical vibrations and sequence as well as how we respond to these arranged pulsations. This body of work represents notes of joy, victories, celebrations, togetherness, longings among others.
As he rightly states, music as a universal linguistic tool connects hearts, emotions and experiences, providing an ambience for conversations that echo collective experiences and offer hope for future triumphs. It is our expectation that this exhibition offers insights into the experiences that notes of the season offer and that through these pieces, we experience wholesomely every note this season presents.
